On November 4 and Dec 2, we will be watching a DVD by Ralph Muncaster, “Creation vs. Evolution.”
Many of the brief segments of this video are available on YouTube if you are interested in watching them. The group had a lively discussion, as we don’t necessarily agree with this video on all details, but found many of the facts presented extremely helpful and interesting.
The December meeting will include the “Appendices” which are more technical and in-depth.

Questions About Design is ch.10 in Michael Behe’s book, Darwin’s Black Box.
Topics in this chapter include a review of the history of design ideas, including Greek thought, Paley, Dawkins, Hume, and others. Behe responds to current and media criticism of the “argument from design” for the existence of God. Discussions include genetics and morphology, as well as philosophy. 22 pages.
A copy will be available to pick up in the KCC office.
NOTE about this week’s meeting.
Krista & Loen will have just returned from holidays, so we don’t feel like cooking for you lot. Please bring some munchie you want to share. Nothing fancy required, chips or cookies or some veggies & dip is totally great. In case Troy decides to join us, no nuts please. Going pot-luck means we can meet twice in September!

In our June meeting, I found out about this video:
Unlocking the mystery of life [videorecording] / produced by Illustra Media.
[S.l.] : Illustra Media, c2002.
Subjects DNA — DVD-Video discs
Intelligent design (Teleology) — DVD-Video discs
Description:
1 videodisc (ca. 65 min.) : sd., col. ; 4 3/4 in.
I’m putting it on hold from the public library and we’ll all watch it together ~ date to be discussed. Our original plan was July, but maybe we shall consider August? Or saving it for a busy week once school starts again in the fall.

Plot Twist!
The movie on Intelligent Design, ‘Expelled‘ will be playing in Kelowna this week. If the group agrees, I think we should have a field trip on Wednesday! Showtime 7 pm, at the Grand10.

Slight change from our previous plan, but it’s still an ID movie!

I found a couple of nice YouTube videos showing protein assembly.
I think that these would very nicely complement reading Behe’s fifth chapter in Darwin’s Black Box. Read the chapter, watch the videos, be inspired by this amazing process.

We should discuss at this meeting our plan for reading all or some of the remaining chapters in the book.

Well, everybody. Let’s plan on meeting January 16th 2008 at 7:00 pm at our house.
Have a merry Christmas and we’ll see you in the New Year!
Edit: It’s the New Year!
Brand new editions of M.Behe’s Darwin’s Black Box have arrived, so let’s read ch.3 “Row, Row, Row Your Boat,” for next Wed.
“Row, Row, Row Your Boat” describes the cilia and flagella which propel movement for single cells. How do single cells move, when they don’t have muscles or joints, legs, wings, or fins? This chapter explains how, and discusses whether the mechanics could have developed gradually through chance mutations… or NOT.
For those interested in coming for the first time on Wednesday, please read one of the links below so that you are prepared to join the discussion.
Behe has an article online which covers some of his basic ideas, here: http://www.discovery.org/scripts/viewDB/index.php?command=view&id=51 “Evidence for Intelligent Design from Biochemistry,” which includes a paragraph on cilia.
Access Research Network also has a summary of this chapter here: http://www.arn.org/docs/mm/flagellum_all.htm and it includes some very nifty animations of flagella.
IDEA summarizes it slightly differently here:

If someone wants to get a copy of chapter 3 from us on Monday, or has any questions about this week’s meeting, please email me (kristac at shaw dot ca). Otherwise, we’ll see you on Wed at 7:30 pm.

We’re meeting a little earlier – 7 pm- and we’re meeting at Starbucks. I’ll buy first beverage for y’all.
Loen’s not feeling well, so we’re leaving him at home and taking the show on the road.
Please get a copy of Michael Behe’s book, Darwin’s Black Box, or borrow from one of the group members, and come ready to discuss chapter 2 : “Nuts and Bolts.” The Clement copy can be borrowed from our box at the church office.

“Evidence for Intelligent Design from Biochemistry” The article covers much of the same concepts as the book, but in a very light manner.
The site looks interesting.

Okay! Let’s dive on in to biological evolution and speciation. Why not?
We’ll be reading a fairly long one this time, on the evolution of the long necked giraffe:

Have a read through and mark it up for discussion. Also consider any Scripture which might relate to our response to this topic.
There is a “part 2″ of this article ~ not required reading! ~ which is nearly 3 times as long as part 1:

Ooops.
The meeting is 7:30 pm at our place
